On that September night, heavy rain caused one of the worst floods in the history of the town, destroying many houses and even the Church of the Annunziata. Abbot Carlo Coletti, who witnessed the events, described what happened in Vol VI of the Dead, stating that the height of the water that invaded the village was 16 palms and its width 168 palms.
In 2002, ‘Spuort’ dell’alluvione’ was restored thanks to the project of Pro Loco President Luca Leone and with the contribution of Pasquale and Maria Cocuzzo, Sandonatesi who emigrated to New York. The ceramic painting depicts the flood scene and comes from a work by Luciano Tocci, while the wrought-iron lantern was made by Cesidio and Mauro Cautilli. This monument is an important tribute to the memory of the history of San Donato Val di Comino and a tourist attraction worth visiting.
