Built around the Rock and the Sanctuary, this cluster of houses dates back to the era of the castle and represents a unique example of how ancient houses were built along the main mule tracks and sheep tracks to create a compact organism.
The donut-shaped morphology of the place gives us an idea of the isolation and life that was led there, as well as the defensive possibilities that were exploited by exploiting the composition of the place. The village develops more towards the west, due to its less steep orographic position and sheltered from the cold winds that blow from the north, as well as the presence of sheep tracks.
One of the alleys of the village leads to a primitive Porta Castello which leads towards the town of Alvito. This medieval village of Cannesse is a popular tourist destination for those interested in history and ancient architecture.
