This gate, built in the Late Gothic period, was the main entrance to the Castrum of the fortified citadel, accessible from Abruzzo via the Forca d’Acero pass. Its position facing North-North East and the presence of a “customs” at the entrance allowed effective control of the Sbarra area.

The arch has a pointed arch structure, typical of the time, and probably derives from the influence of the Cantelmo family who lived in the area in that period. Even today, the stone seats where the pins were inserted to open and close the door are still visible. The area under the arch, known locally as “Glie Ammarieglie”, is much appreciated by citizens for its history and its panoramic position.

In this place, the patron saint looks out to give his blessing to the town, and it is an ideal place to take panoramic photographs of the medieval village.
