This museum was created in 2013 to preserve and transmit the historical and cultural heritage and materials of the private atelier of the same name in Paris, which was one of the liveliest art studios in Paris from 1889 to 1914.
The Académie Vitti was founded by Cesare Vitti, his wife Maria Caira, and his sisters Anna and Giacinta, all four former models. Over the course of its twenty-five years of activity, the Académie Vitti was fortunate to have among its teachers some of the most important figures in the international art scene of the time, including Paul Gauguin, Luc-Olivier Merson, Jacques-Émile Blanche, Hermenegildo Anglada Camarasa and Kees van Dongen.
The Académie Vitti taught young artists from various countries, including Europe and Latin America, with a special focus on female painters and sculptors from North America. A peculiarity of this drawing and painting school was the free admission of female students, who could practice with nude models.
The Académie Vitti Museum, located in the same residence in Atina (province of Frosinone) that belonged to the Caira-Vitti family upon their return from France, exhibits photographs, postcards, drawings and sketches that document the events of private painting schools in Paris, including the Académie Vitti, at a crucial moment in modern art between the end of the 19th century and the second decade of the last century.
Visit the Académie Vitti Museum to immerse yourself in the history and culture of modern art in Paris and to discover the history of this school that opened its doors to female painters and sculptors from all over the world.
